Fire

In the Chinese Medicine Theory of Five Elements, Fire is the element of the Heart and Small Intestine, and is associated with the emotion of joy. In nature, fire is represented by the Summer, a scorched smell, the color red, and a bitter taste. Individuals who have a Fire constitution love to reach out and be in relationships with people. They enjoy laughing but sometimes they carry a sense of sadness or lack of joy deep within themselves.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medical practice that has been used to effectively diagnose and treat illness for thousands of years. Bioenergy called Qi (pronounced chee) circulates via pathways to all parts of the body. When the flow of Qi is impeded or disturbed, pain or illness occurs. The painless insertion of flexible hair-thin, sterile needles into precise points on the body helps restore the smooth flow of Qi, which balances and harmonizes the body systems.
How does Acupuncture work?
In the body there are energy channels called meridians that originate with each organ. Life promoting substances such as Qi and blood circulate through these meridians to every cell, tissue and organ in the body, as well as the mind and spirit. Specific points are either stimulated to encourage the circulation of Qi to areas of the body or tonified to strengthen the Qi in areas that are depleted.
Does Acupuncture hurt?
Generally, acupuncture is not painful. Most people find it to be very pleasant and say that insertion of the needle produces little or no sensation at all. When the body’s Qi is activated a sensation that has been described as tingling, achy, heavy or electric occurs at the insertion sight or along the meridian. This sensation usually dissipates quickly.
Are the needles sterile?
Absolutely! Acupuncturists are required to follow a strict protocol regarding the use of sterile, disposable, single-use needles to ensure the safety of all patients.
How many treatments and how often?
There is no set formula for the number and frequency of treatments as each person responds to treatment in a unique. Typically, the recommendation is 1-4 treatments per month depending on the severity and duration of the condition. Patients may respond more slowly and require several months for treatments to reach their health goals.
Will I need Chinese Herbs too?
A Chinese herbal formula may be recommended as it may enhance the healing process. Traditionally, an herbal formula is taken as a custom made tea. However today there are several options such as tea pills, plasters, tinctures, drafts and granules. Herbal remedies are made from the highest quality herbs and are combined to form custom herbal prescription.
What is the theory of five elements?
The Five Element theory of Chinese Medicine is based on the observation of the natural cycles and interrelationships in our environment and within ourselves. There are five elements- Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood. Each one corresponds to a set of organs, a type of tissue in the body, a color, an emotion, a smell, a taste and a season.  These elements interact with each other  in the body. Some interactions are benefitial while others cause imbalances and lead to illness. As a Chinese Medical practioner we work to harmonize these relationships to promote health and well being.
